TIMBILA STUDENT VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME

We will guarantee you the most adventurous experience of your lifetime.

You will start your stay with us in the tranquil Groot River Valley, in the Eastern Cape, on Timbila Game Reserve. You will be housed in our renovated “Hunters House” on the farm. You will be provided with three meals a day and the house will be stocked with all basic items that you might need to make life comfortable for you. (You will help to prepare these meals and in the process will also learn some basic life skills regarding cooking).

Here our PH (Professional Hunter) will teach the basics of the fauna of the area and introduce you to our 24 Hoof Species on the farm.

You will be taught to handle a firearm, stalk a buck and ultimately, should you want to, hunt your first wild buck. (The hunting is optional and the buck is for the students cost)

You will be taught to slaughter the animal, cape your own trophy, and work the meat and prepare it for a real African feast.

You will be part of the team that do basic maintenance on the farm and the vehicles and look after the general welfare of the animals on the farm.

We will arrange for you to do a snake handling course that will dispel your fears of snakes and introduce you to some of Africa’s most dangerous species.

We will introduce you to 4 x 4 driving and give you the opportunity to experience Africa at its best. You will go on an unforgettable trip through the Baviaans Wilderness Area where you will camp one night under the African Stars around a campfire.

We will arrange for you to spend a week on a big cat breeding facility where you will come in contact with the King of Africa. You will feed and work with Lions, Cheetas and other endangered cat species.

Weekends are for yourself but we can can arrange for you to do a off road Motorcycle Course on the nearby Louvain under the auspices of accredited off road instructor, Nico Bester or Johan Sonnekus. (www.louvain.co.za) (Optional Extra)

We can also enlighten your weekends by organising a tour to the Cango Caves, or a dive with the white sharks of Mossel Bay. (Optional Extra)

The minimum stay is 2 weeks and we can accommodate 4 students at a time.

We will pick you up from George or Port Elizabeth Airport and deliver you back there on completion of your stay with us.

Our whole outlook on your stay with us is to let you experience the adventure of living on a game farm in Africa.

For your stay with us you will be an integral part of all activities on the farm.
