If you could only see Timbila now!
It is amazing how grateful the Karoo veld is. We heve been blessed with good continuous rains since October 2008 and the veld looks beautiful!
Everything is green, even some of the roads are overgrown with grass. The veld boasts with ripe prickly pear-yellow, wild plum-red between green leaves, Acacia-green, salt bush -grey and purple of the "doring vygie".
Have you ever seen a river come down through the Karoo and watched how it fills up all the water-holes and river crossings? Can you imagine the excitement that flows through the valley? This only happens about once a year and we have had the privilege to experience it again in early March. At the moment there is water in front of Mahlangeni, the pool at Timbila Camp is quite full (ideal for fishing and swimming) and there's water in all the pools where the river dams up. (We have added some photos to share with you).
It's a boy!! Our new baby giraffe is about 2 weeks old and absolutely gorgeous! After a 15-month pregnancy and a delivery (drop) of 1,5m, the baby was born healthy. It weighs 60-90kg and measures 1,5m-1,8m. They usually hide for the first few weeks, but he already walks with the group and if you're lucky, the mother will show him off. Timbila now boasts with 9 giraffes! They are our pride and joy.
The hunting season was very successful and the butchery worked overtime. We made boerewors, dry wors, biltong, etc and the meat sold out quite fast.
For our hunting friends - book now, only limited space left. For those who love the meat but not the hunt, call us to place your order. You can choose your animal and the way you would like it processed, and you will receive it packaged.

Make use of the long weekend in September, (but hurry, enquiries are coming in fast!) or ask for the special mid-week rate! We offer up to 20% discount for mid-weeks out of season!
